Cola

Battersea

Cola, a sweet and heavily pregnant cat, was placed with Tammy, an experienced foster carer known for her exceptional care of over 140 mums and kittens. The goal was to provide Cola with a peaceful environment to prepare for the arrival of her kittens and to ensure an experienced hand was available in case of any complications. After only five days in Tammy’s care, Cola went into labor. Sadly, her first kitten was stillborn, a heartbreaking start to what should have been a joyful occasion. As Cola’s labor progressed, Tammy sensed that something was amiss. It was the middle of the night, but Tammy didn’t hesitate. She rushed Cola to the emergency vet, knowing that the lives of the remaining kittens depended on quick action. At the vet, three more kittens were born naturally. However, it soon became clear that Cola needed an emergency Caesarean to save the last two undelivered kittens. The procedure was performed just in time, and both kittens survived, joining their three siblings. Cola’s ordeal was over, and she could finally rest and recover under Tammy’s watchful eye.

Tammy’s journey as a foster carer began after her own beloved cat passed away. She wanted to give back to rescue cats in need, and fostering seemed like the perfect way to honor her late pet’s memory. Over the years, Tammy had welcomed more than 140 mums and kittens into her home, providing a safe haven for them to grow and thrive. The sound of tiny paws had become a constant and comforting presence in her home. When Cola arrived, Tammy was prepared for the responsibility. She knew that Cola needed a calm and nurturing environment to prepare for her kittens’ birth. Despite the initial heartbreak of losing the first kitten, Tammy’s quick actions during Cola’s labor ensured that the other kittens had a fighting chance.

As the kittens grew, Tammy watched with joy as they began to explore their surroundings, their little personalities starting to shine through. Cola, too, began to relax and show her affectionate nature. The once anxious and stressed cat was now a loving mother, her kittens thriving under Tammy’s care. Tammy knew that her time with Cola and the kittens was temporary. Each foster cat and litter eventually moved on to their forever homes, but the impact she had on their lives was lasting. Her home was a stepping stone, a place where they could heal, grow, and become ready for the next chapter of their lives.

For Tammy, fostering is more than just a volunteer role; it is a passion and a calling. Every cat that passes through her home left a paw print on her heart, and Cola and her kittens were no exception. The experience with Cola reaffirmed Tammy’s commitment to helping rescue cats, knowing that she plays a vital role in giving them a second chance at a happy life.
